It is a non-FIFA league previously sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA), but now affiliated with the Soccer Federation of Canada (SFC). As of 2025, it consists of four teams, all located in Toronto, Ontario. The season usually runs. from May to October, with most games played on the weekend followed by a playoff format to determine the overall champion. • The league was formed in 1998 as the Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL) by an alliance forged by the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) with the Canadian National Soccer League. The new league was created to provide opportunities for the development of players, coaches, and referees. The intention of the alliance was to form regional divisions across the nation under the CPSL banner, with each divisional champion competing in a playoff format for the championship. • Beyond its domestic structure, the CSL has increasingly demonstrated a strong aspiration for international recognition and collaboration, aligning its vision with global football standards and partnerships. This ambition reflects the League’s desire to position itself within the broader international football community as a meaningful contributor to the sport’s global development. • A key objective of the newly inaugurated Executive Board is to expand the League’s footprint through the formation of additional clubs and the strategic recruitment of international players across borders. This initiative is designed to strengthen competitiveness, enhance diversity within the league, and elevate the overall standard of play, while fostering stronger international football connections. • This renewed drive for expansion and international engagement has been further inspired by the global momentum surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026, which the CSL views as a catalyst to strengthen visibility, expand networks, and showcase its grassroots achievements on an international stage. • Through its dual commitment to grassroots development and international engagement, the CSL continues to evolve as a progressive football institution, bridging local talent development with global opportunity.Agenda Highlights
